While the game doesn't do much with the unique features of the 3DS, it brings the popular home console experience to players' pockets.

With the launch of the 3DS, EA is finally able to bring The Sims franchise to the handheld space in its complete form. Offering a complete life simulation in stereoscopic 3D, The Sims 3 will allow players to perform the functions formerly seen in only the console or PC equivalents.

To start the experience, Sims can be created, with everything being customizable from hair style to personalities. Taking use of the 3DS camera, players can capture their own likeness, or that of friends and family to use in the game. Based on the picture, The Sims 3 will render a 3D model that closely matches the source material. If the end result is not perfect, players can sculpt facial features with the stylus to form a more perfect match.

Unlike the very first game in the series, players bring their Sims into a fully functioning neighborhood, though only a single household can be dictated and controlled at a time. However, players will still be in for a similar experience, as it is necessary to control each Sims' every move and to forge relationships with the other Sims living in close proximity.

Players can bring their Sims to different zones, each of which provides a unique atmosphere and activity. Within these zones, players can build Sims homes or partake in unique community features.

Extended play will unlock a variety of items, outfits, and rewards as will taking on particular careers in the game. Whether you choose to make your Sim an athlete, a criminal, or a musician, something new awaits in the game. Furthermore, the experiences your Sims have will help shape and dictate their characteristics in the game.

Everything earned can be passed off to friends using Streetpass, as can actual Sims characters. Further utilizing 3DS functionality, players can both blow into the microphone or activate the gyroscope by shaking the handheld device. These actions will activate Karma Powers, which mimic the catastrophic events first seen in Sim City. Blowing will summon tranquil butterflies, while shaking the system will result in an earthquake.

While the game doesn't truly take meaningful use of the 3DS features, players should look into The Sims 3 for its ability to provide a fully-featured Sims experience on a handheld device. The Sims 3 will be available alongside the 3DS at launch on March 27 for a suggested retail price of $39.99.
