Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D Preview

Konami seeks to provide an authentic and feature-rich soccer experience in handheld form.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D is yet another iteration in the PES series (also known as International Super Star Soccer and Winning 11), but given the advanced capabilities of the 3DS, it is sure to offer one of the most robust handheld soccer experiences to date. While stereoscopic 3D will be included, giving players a sense of depth on the field, it will also offer a wide variety of other features.

To help showcase the headlining 3D features, players will have access to two distinct cameras – one that puts players on the field (player camera) and another that gives a spectator view from the sets of the stadium (wide camera). These two unique perspectives should give players flexibility to fit their play style, as well as different play experiences depending on the camera location.

In the Master League mode, players will be able to create their own team and carry them through the ranks. This same team will be used in the Street Pass mode, against players passing by. Better stats and strategies will result in wins, unlocking classic players and teams. Two players can wirelessly go head-to-head in a standard Exhibition match.

Like Samurai Warriors: Chronicles, the enlarged 3DS ROM size has given the Winning 11 team the ability to incorporate play-by-play commentary. Undoubtedly, this should enhance the gameplay experience for players on-the-go with access to headphones.

Players can choose one of 60 National and 170 club sides this time around, and compete in both the UEFA Champions League and Master League. As a port of the PSP version of the mainline release of the game, all of the improvements made to the core formula will persist.

According to Konami, more so than ever, players will have total control on the field. They will have the ability to direct plays and the ball’s trajectory however they see fit – whether they are passing, shooting, throwing-in, or executing through balls and lofted through-balls. Athletes can now be closely monitored as well thanks to the shot and stamina gauges. Constant sprinting will change how players operate, hurting stats, and causing passes to go off with unexpected results.

Goalie control is also improved, allowing for quick roll-outs, saves, and accuracy during goal kicks and ball distribution. Defender AI has been improved as well; they will now hold positions on their own and act more human-like, avoiding chasing down every ball that comes in close proximity.

The game has also been tailored for players of all skills, offering five distinct levels of difficulty, from Beginner to Top Player. Over time, as players learn better strategy and team management, they will naturally be able to progress through the challenge levels.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D will be available alongside the launch of the Nintendo 3DS for a suggested retail price of $39.99. Be sure to check back after launch for PixlBit’s review coverage on the game.
