Splitting Down The Middle – Mario Mania #5

Good-bye 2-D platforming, hello 3-D polygons and analogue sticks.

Final Thoughts

Mario 64 was a very impressive game to me in 1996. The graphics were unlike anything I had seen before; Mario spoke for the first time, and jumping around in full 3-D levels with an analogue stick brought a massive smile to my face. Despite that, is Mario 64 still a good game today? In a sense, it's like the original Super Mario Bros. on the NES: rather plain looking and a bit flawed gameplay-wise, but it still entertains. If you have never played Mario’s first 3-D adventure, check it out on the Wii Shop Channel or seek the original N64 cart if you are interested.

Next Part: Don’t break your own rule, Nintendo.

The person I'm referring to is, of course, Michael Alvarado, otherwise known as Michael117.
