PixlBit's 2013 Sneak Preview: The Heavy Hitters

We take a look at three of the biggest games heading your way this year.

2012 was kind of an amazing year for video games. We had the launch of two new pieces of hardware in the form of the PS Vita and the Wii U. We had amazing games that seemingly came out of nowhere such as XCOM: Enemy Territory, Dishonored, and Far Cry 3. We also saw growth in the digital download realm, with games like Journey and The Walking Dead in the running for many game of the year lists. With all of that said, 2013 is poised to be one of the biggest years in video game history. As the resident previews guy for PixlBit, I wanted to highlight a few of the more notable games in the pipeline for the coming year. So let's kick things off right with a few of the heavy hitters this year.

 

The Heavy Hitters

There are plenty of huge games coming out in 2013, and depending on your preferences, some are bigger than others. But the games in this section are on a different level of hype; they have all eyes on them either because they’re so anticipated or because they’ve generated controversy.

After finishing Bioshock, and playing some of Bioshock 2, i can totally say that Bioshock Infinite has jumped up a few notches on my hype meter. The gameplay I've seen looks really impressive, and I like the vibe its going for. And Troy Baker is in it, so it has to be awesome right?

Ive never been a big GTA Guy but GTA V looks cool. Ill keep an eye out, but I doubt ill be getting it unless I suddenly become a fan of the series between now and then.

And lastly, I know a lot of people are looking forward to Tomb Raider. I was too, until i tried it at NYCC. Sure it was an early build, but I was overall unimpressed. She goes through the same "every bad thing must happen to her" thing that Nathan Drake does and i thought Tomb Raider was supposed to be about something else. Not only that, but the gameplay was sketchy, and i feel like they are trying to hard to make the New Laura likable, when she ends up coming off a bit annoying. Hopefully Im wrong, but I cant get excited for it just yet.

Tomb Raider would probably be my most anticipated game in a year that didn't have BioShock, GTA, The Last of Us, Remember Me, and Dragon Age 3 in it. With that said, if you forced me to buy only one of the three heavy hitter games it would be BioShock. It's a shame I won't be able to play it when it comes out, because I fully believe it's going to be a transcendent gaming experience.
