Etrian Odyssey's Battle Theme = the new Guile's Theme! *mind blown*
Etrian Odyssey IV's Battle Theme Goes with Everything
And sometimes it actually makes it better
I'm kicking off a new segment where I talk about game music, and I wanted to do something special to introduce it. There's a lot of information in the YouTube description you might find interesting about the video itself, but I don't see any value in repeating that a second time here. Instead, I'll give you a little behind the scenes story about how I came up with this.
I picked up Etrian Odyssey IV at my local GameStop and asked if they had a copy of Fire Emblem Awakening as well. Turned out they didn't, but there was an abandoned pre-order at another GameStop about 10 miles away, so the clerk gave them a call and asked them to hold it for me, which they did.
On the way there, I popped the soundtrack into my CD player to give it a listen. When the battle theme came on, I was blown away. It was super energetic and intense.I also realized that a Hyundai Accent can, in fact, reach 90 mph (although it starts to shake.)
I had the idea for putting this video together while chatting with other staff. I started with over 30 clips I wanted to use, then narrowed that down further. Some stuff did end up being cut out in the end, not because it didn't work, but because other stuff worked out better.
The hardest cut to make was Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark. I really wanted to use the scene where the Nazis open the Ark during the guitar solo (get it? Face melting guitar solo?) I ended up letting that one go for pretty selfish reasons. I wanted to share the clip with my kids, but didn't want them to get nightmares. It is pretty graphic, even today.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the compilation, and look forward to more video game music related stuff from me in the future. Also, I need a name for this segment! so if you have any ideas, let me know in the comments!
