Nerds Without Pants Episode 20: Ten

Play it loud!

It's time again for Nerds Without Pants! This week, JD joins us for a very special look at growing up in the '90s, and all the great games we experienced back then. So lace up your army boots, tie a flannel around your waist, and chug some Crystal Pepsi folks, because this episode of NWP is full of attitude and is so effing XTREME!

First though, we head over to Consumption Junction, where quite a bit of games are talked about. Enjoy plenty of discussion about God of War: Ascension, Gears of War: Judgment, BioShock Infinite, The Cave, and Star Craft II: Heart of the Swarm. Julian brings up Metal Gear Solid V and the danger of "prequel fatigue". We also talk about comics for a reeeally long time, as well as a bit of TV.

Then we hop into the Wayback Machine for a trip through 1990-1999. There's as much as a ten year gap between the oldest and youngest members of this show, so memories and experiences vary wildly. From the heyday of the arcade to the launch of the SNES, N64, PSX, and more, the Pantsless Ones have a lot to say. Pokemon addiction! Fear of Ecco the Dolphin! Dreams of living on Dawson's Creek! All this and more await you in a most excellent episode of Nerds Without Pants! Seriously, you Ninten-don't want to miss this one.

In this episode, I find out I have a lot in common with Julian, probably due to the age thing. I too loved Power Rangers a bit too much for too long; we had SNES, so I played the two beat-em-ups, the Zord fighter, and the Zeo racing game. I was jealous of the Genesis one though, cause it had the Green Ranger. And yes, Batman Forever was TERRIBLE. Never got past the first screen.

I also didn't play OoT and other classics for myself really until the end of the N64's life.

About the Charizard card: everyone BUT me had one growing up. Seriously, most of my friends had one it seemed like.

Great podcast, the music in it, especially the middle and end brought back some great memories.

Oh, I actually liked the Forever movie as a kid, a lot actually, especially cause I was a big Jim Carrey fan. I'm just saying the game itself was horrendous... unless the Batman & Robin game was worse, too?

Oh... I'm... sorry you had to experience that. Cry

If it's any consolation, Linkara (internet reviewer guy) does a Power Rangers retrospective. If you Google it, you may learn some interesting facts. Let me know if you need anything else, I'm here for you. Anything at all.

That Batman and Robin game was such a huge disappointment. They were trying to make what I still believe would be the ultimate Batman game: an open world action game that requires detective work to learn where you need to go and who you need to find. Too bad everything about it was garbage.

Thanks for the feedback, as well as the comments we put in the show! I didn't get a chance to say it in the show, but even though I was 13 when Power Rangers came on I was in awe of it. I came for the giant monsters and martial arts action. I stayed for Kimberly's ass.

Don't care what's said, the 90s was a fantastic decade, for alternate music games and comics (at least indy stuff), cartoons.

I've been reading the Injustice Stuff (and Nu52 and your analysis is right) and it's very good a better Justice League comic than the other 2 DC are publishing, there was this funny exchange between Harley and Green ArrowTongue Out

I'm a Bat-fanatic but i dropped them all, they're all boring and i'm suffering from event-fatigue. I just wish Constantine didn't suck to be honest, there's a problem at the moment with DC editorialUndecided

I stopped reading Spidey since OMD, AvX was a very bad event, Cyclopse was right! Journey into Mystery is my favourite comic from Marvel, Young Avengers second. I'm only reading Uncanny X-force because i won't to see Bishop redeemed.Yell

I only had a Gameboy Pocket and Nintendo Official Magazine (NOM) in the 90s my gaming exoerience mainly came from arcades and my older (half) Brother, he had Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis (Megadrive over here), he taught me how to play everything. My school every last day of term we could bust out the PlaystationCool

I vaguely remember the O Jay stuff (yep, even in England), i didn't get it at the time but dad said something like "Beat the whiteman at his own game" Wink

I like Constantine in Justice League Dark N52. N52 got me back into comic stores after a long hiatus. I like the Earth 2 series and Batman. Also Justice League.
