Digital Mystery Tour Episode 15: Balance and Ruin

One of the best tributes to Final Fantasy VI out there.

Recently I heard a new fan project by the fine folks over at OverClocked Remix. it's a 4 disk set of music inspired by (read: covers of music from) Final Fantasy VI. If you've got any nostalgia for the game, any love for the series, if you're a fan of Uemastu or if you even like good music in general, you really owe it to yourself to check it out.

Now, of course, I've got a 30 minute show here, so you're not going to hear the entire album. What I've done instead is try to give you a pretty good sample of what to expect. Naturally, there's much much more on the actual product, including work from many more artists reflecting quite a few different styles of music. You can grab it for free from their site, and again, I highly recommend it.

Balance and Ruin is so good! I did several blogs about it—here, here, and here. Picking just a few would be hard but I like your selections. I love the silly swing of Gobble, Snarf, Snap and The Impresario blows me away every time I hear it.

I was rocking out to that in the car last night driving home from work actually. Someone really loves their Queen. The entire Opera set works so well together. The first track sounds like someone who loves them some Phantom of the Opera, and the last one is just. WOW.

I really like A Fistfull of Nickles.  That whistle and similar sound to the Wild Arms games sold me on it right away.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Review

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen an entry in the Metroid Prime series - 18 years, in fact. It was 8 years ago that Metroid Prime 4 was originally announced and its development was more than a little turbulent. Initially developed by Bandai Namco, it was later scrapped completely and development was shifted back to Retro Studios to start the project over. In the end, Retro has delivered a solid new entry in the series, but one that doesn’t totally capture what originally made the series so compelling.
