Backloggers Anonymous Castlevania Lords of Shadow Part 1

What is a podcast, but a miserable pile of opinion!

So, this was supposed to be a Halloween special, but clearly we're a little bit late for that. Oh well.

This time we're tackling Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, which is a game both Julian and I have meant to get around to playing, but never got around to for one reason or another. Unlike most of our podcasts, we don't really have anybody on board who has played this game before, so we spent most of the 'cast talking about our history with Castlevania titles, some Konami titles, and Tiger handheld LCD games.

Yeah, I know. But it's related, trust me.

In the course of the podcast, we referenced a re-release of this title that included the DLC and Mirror of Fate. That's out now and priced very well at $39.99, so if you want to play along with us, picking the game up this way isn't a bad option.

As usual, we'd love to get some feedback from the community, so let us know what you think and if you'll be playing along with us. If you've got some great talking points or stir up some good discussion, we'll try and work it into the next recording as well.

Just finished listening to the Podcast.  Good stuff.  I'm more familiar with the first 3 NES Castlevania's.  I had Symphony of the Night on my PlayStation, but I think I ended up selling it for some reason (stupid decision).  Then I had it on my Xbox 360, but then I got the RROD and I couldn't send it off to get Microsoft to fix it (stupid Xbox).

I think it's available on the PS3 via PS Store, right?  Maybe I'll get it again from there.

Yes, it is, and it's well worth playing.

"Shaft,damnnn right!"

I recently got Dracula X Chronicles. Good times! I enjoyed Lords Of Shadow when it first came out too. I know it got a lot of flak for being a "God of war clone" but it did enough differently for me to really get into it. LOS gave me the same nostalgic tingle as Super CV 4 did. I also do not mind the canonical changes. I simply see it as a separate alternate universe.

PS: I owned the Tiger versions of Ninja Gaiden,Simon's Quest,Batman, and Gauntlet. lol. As dated as they were, those portable games saved me from a lot of boredom during long trips!

I had my share of Tiger or off-brand LCD games too back in the 80s I had a lot of fun with them. I actually have a really sweet pinball one that actually kind of holds up!

They seem dated and limited now but they were pleasant time-passers,Angelo! I never even felt that conscientious about not having a game boy. Back in the day, "Tiger" had good fun for cheap prices!

I wish it was $30.  Maybe I'll just get the single game.  I wonder how much is that?  It has to be cheap by now. Laughing

Well, it's a new release, so it should drop soon.

I have Lords of Shadow for 360. I got it and Two Worlds II for 10 bucks apiece new. Haven't touched either of 'em yet but I couldn't resist the price.

This is in my top 5 games for this generation.  It got a lot of mixed reviews and complaints but it hit the bullseye for me.  I just beat it around Halloween and I have been debating on picking up this version to round out the story.  It was a defenite buy for me until I learned the bonus content and new game were all download only.  I'm now debating if it I can wait and find it for cheaper than what it would cost just buy the extra stuff on live.

I am going to have to pass on this game.  I was super interested in it when they anounced it and followed it up until its release.  I played the demo, but just wasn't feeling it so I never picked it up.

I played Lords of Shadow about a year and a half ago and have some definite opinions about it but I'll save those for the second podcast Wink
