Time For Another Community Podcast!

It's 2015 and we've run out of ideas. You come up with them!

Hey PixlBit people! I’ve commandeered the website because, well, I can! It’s time for the Nerds Without Pants to do the obligatory year in review thingy, but I’ve decided to do things differently this time around. Yep, it’s time for another community topic episode, so read on to see how you can participate!

If you’re new to the show (and hopefully you are after that awesome interview with the Phantom Compass guys), we occasionally pull in some topics from the PixlBit community. These are typically small topics that we can spend around ten-fifteen minutes on that might not warrant a whole show, but taken together make for a fun, unpredictable episode.

This time, I actually have some criteria for the submissions. Mainly, the topics should revolve around looking back at 2014 or looking forward to what we are expecting for 2015. I have faith in our listeners and readers, and I expect some interesting and off the wall ideas that would be more entertaining than the typical “favorite and least favorite games” discussion that we would probably do on our own.

We will also have Casey back on the show after his successful debut in episode 59. He is well known among the PixlBit community, so don’t be afraid to come up with ideas that he can speak to as well. If you need some better indication of the community episode format, you can listen to the previous episodes here and here.

I guess I’d better hand the website back over to Nick before he grounds me. I look forward to getting some fun topics (either in the comments section here or via private message to yours truly), and we will be recording the evening of January 21, so time is a factor, people.

 Since Casey is on the show, you could talk about the upcoming Uncharted Team Racing, a game where Nathan Drake spends the money he made from killing black people on making a cart racing tournament.

 Next up, The Last of Us X, where Joel and Ellie race Dune buggies but look rather upset by the whole ideal.

Here's a good talking point: Nintendo had a better year in 2014 with the Wii U and key releases like Super Smash Bros. 3DS & Wii U. They also did great job in drumming up interest in future releases with their Nintendo Direct-- Splatoons, Captain Toad, Amiibo, Legend of Zelda. Good stuff to look forward to in 2015. Overall, the Wii U is picking up steam at the right time.

Also, maybe you could briefly speak on Gamergate and how it contributed to 2014 being a lousy year for lots of regular gamers like us. No need to get too deep into details. Most listeners probably know all about it by now.

Okay, here's another one, this time it's serious: Hotline Miami is being banned in Australia because it features an implicit rape scene.

 This debacle brings up two important topics. Firstly: Do you think there are any subjects video games shouldn't cover? 

 Secondly, since it's being banned in Australia, the developers have encouraged Australian consumers to pirate the game, as they will not alter their vision. Is this okay? Do you think game developers should promote piracy in any form, and do you think there is any occasion where piracy is acceptable?

 I apologise if this is a bit heavy for the show. I've only listened to the last episode Casey was on because he linked it so I'm pretty new to it. What I heard I enjoyed and I'm pretty sure I'll be a regular listener from here on out.

This is more of a looking forward to 2015 question, but for backlog games instead of new games, although it's still relevant to the 2014 concept you're going for.

Talk about your backlogs, give an inventory on what they're looking like at this point and how likely you are to play a lot of those backlogged games in 2015.

I only played 5 or less new games that came out during 2014, most of my year was spent playing games from 2012 and 2013. Julian said recently that he whipped the 360 out again and shelved the ps4 for a little bit. Theres no better time to take a look back at the 360 andd PS3 and get games for them. They each have huge libraries and the games are all easy to find and super cheap anymore, so I'm playing lots of catch up lately.
