Our Take

Quick analysis by me: At the beginning of the video, when Sonic enters the tunnel, he does a short-hop and a slide, both of which are possible in Sonic Rush and Sonic Colors. Nothing too special there.

The stage is clearly reminiscent of Green Hill Zone and Emerald Hill Zone, which were the starting zones in the original Sonic the Hedgehog and its sequel.

Classic Sonic looks great when he's jumping through mid-air, and it's not too hard to believe I mostly like his look better than the current Sonic look.

This is probably the 30th time Sega has said they're bringing Sonic back to his roots, including last year's Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode One title, which received pretty mixed reviews, itself.

I'll just say this: we'll see. I've grown to be skeptical of all Sonic properties at this point. I don't think Sega can ever successfully bring Sonic back to his roots because the console landscape is so much different today than it was back then, but that's a discussion for a different day. I do think that Sega can do better than they have and I'd at least like to see something serviceable come from them.

I still remember the last PS3/360 Sonic title. The one that wasn't on a Nintendo platform. Its name was "Sonic the Hedgehog." It was meant to revitalize the Sonic name or something like that, hence reusing the original's title.

To Sonic Color's credit, it didn't do any of the following three things most recent Sonic games did:

1) Force players to watch cutscenes with a emo version of Sonic (Shadow).

2) Go through crappy emerald hunting levels.

3) Have Sonic kiss a human female.

The problem is Sonic was designed with Blast Processing in mind. Without that all we'll get are terrible games.

AAANNNNDDDD I just found out that this game is basically old Genesis levels transplated into 2 1/2-D graphics. Being a huge fan of the Genesis titles, this just disappoints me.

Then again, I'm not like a majority of the Sonic fanbase which are slightly insane in their wants and needs.

Anyone still wish that Nintendo made a Sonic game?

Seriously? The crappy 2.5D graphics in Sonic 4 Ep. 1 were a huge turn off for me, so pass on this.

I can't find anything anywhere that suggests this game is the old genesis levels with 2.5D graphics. Where'd you hear about that?

I should have worded that better: so far, it's only a rumor. Still, I am not anticipating this. At all.

Oh who am I kidding? I'll probably play it because being someone who enjoyed the Genesis Sonic titles will doom me to play any Sonic release.

Then I shove it up my ass.

I imagine it'll be a Sonic Rush/Sonic Colors remaking of the stages, given how "New" Sonic was going through the stages before. Given that, some of it will be in two dimensions, other parts in three, by my guess.
