great article. I'm pretty excited about the switch, but am waiting a bit until there're more games. Excited for those who are getting it though!
The Nintendo Switch Chicago Preview Event
Friend of the site, Greg Meyer, had a chance to go hands on with the Switch at one of the exclusive events. In anticipation of tomorrow's release, he's put together a bunch of impressions to get you excited for what's coming next for Nintendo.
Snipperclips
Snipperclips is an interesting little co-op puzzle game that’s scheduled for release soon after The Switch arrives in stores. The players control one of two little paper creatures that have the ability to snip off portions of their body to form themselves into new shapes in order to complete puzzles in each stage. This is accomplished by having the players overlap each other so one player can snip off the overlapped portion of their friend’s body, creating a new shape. If the player snips off too much or makes a mistake, with the press of a button, the creature can revert back to their original shape.
The creatures move at a slow, deliberate pace, which is handy since some of the puzzles require precise actions to complete their tasks. In one puzzle, there was a basketball court, with a basketball stuck behind a gate. One player needed to be thin enough to jump up and press a button to release the ball, while the other player had to catch the ball with their body and jump the ball into the hoop. The task appeared simple enough, but my friend and I needed multiple attempts to get the solution down.
What impressed me about Snipperclips in retrospect is that it requires constant communication between the two players. My friend and I would discuss what we needed to do, snip each other into the right form, and accomplish the task. With every failure, we’d talk about where we went wrong, and went about correcting our mistake. We laughed at every failure, and never felt frustrated when our plans fell apart.
We played Snipperclips using the system in tabletop mode, with a joy-con for each player. Snipperclips translates well using The Switch’s screen, and the colorful graphics work well on a small screen.
Snipperclips is an absolute gem, and looks like a must own title if you have a person to play it with. I’m not sure how Snipperclips will work in single player, but in co-op, this game shines. Definitely keep an eye out on this title, as there’s something special here.
