Nerds Without Pants Episode 135: Kept You Waiting, Huh?

Initiating NWP v3.0 (beta version)

After a longer than intended hiatus, the Nerds Without Pants are BACK! A lot has happened since the last episode of the show two months ago. New jobs, new adventures, and the announcement of the beta phase for NWP version 3.0. Enough with the preamble; let’s get to it!

We kick things off with why we were gone, some minor E3 talk (we know it’s way late, so we don’t dwell on it), and Patrick’s favorite arcade spot. Julian finished God of War and is amazed that he liked Detroit: Become Human more. On top of that, there’s also talk of Yakuza 0, Patrick’s new endeavors, the return of Patrick’s Poetry Corner, and more!

We’re happy to be back, and we appreciate your love and patience with us during our hiatus and this upcoming transitional phase. We look forward to getting back to full power and being better than ever; just give us time! We love you all.

Glad to have you guys back. I think I can speak for many and say we really appreciate your dedication to NWP and keeping it going. I half expected you guys to come back to announce the show will end. Im sorry to hear that it isn't as big as you'd like because you guys deserve it.

Have you ever considered a reboot? Maybe your outpaced by newer podcasts because they have come at a time where podcasts are more popular. If I'm looking for a new podcast, 100+ episodes can be intimidating.

I don't know, I'd just hate to see the show end. It really does feel so friendly and inviting compared to others. It would be the one I'd hate to lose most since the other 7+ podcasts I hear can practically replace each other. But at some point you have to call it quits if it doesn't seem feasible. Here's to hoping it can pick up steam and go full speed ahead.

I also share your thoughts on fighting games. I love them but I have no one to play with so don't buy them. I can't justify a solo fighting game anymore and online is too intense for me. I can only have my ass completely handed to me online so many times before I quit. But it's different with friends. I'll fight back for hours to try to improve if it's on a couch.

The Pak-Watch segment is fine but I definitely preferred Chrono Crossing. But it wasnt made to be endless. Pak-Watch is great when it's a game I can reflect on but the first few were a bit out of my range. But I'm sure there are dozens of games in the Mega Buster that would pull me in. Give it some more time as is or at most maybe try a Poll to decide what game is featured on the next episode. Personally I cant wait for Stage Select. It may be my favorite segment in any podcast.

A reboot? That's an interesting idea, but I don't think so. I mean, the Bombcast is on episode 542 at this point. I'd like to think the show is easy to jump into; it's just been frustrating getting more people to actually jump into it organically. I know there are some ways to get more eyes on it, but they tend to be shady at best, and usually result in a bunch of twitter bots inflating your numbers, but no actual people engaging.

Well, if you're gonna be in beta form, then I guess it's time for me to make a cuck podcast. Lots of research ahead o' me.I think "Screaming into the Void" might be a good title.

I was so happy for Smash Bros. fans, right up until they went into game mechanics, at which point I checked out. Also, I never used the Ice Climbers. Don't understand the hype train behind them, unless this is a troll meme flying over my head?

I enjoy the hell out of Tekken 7, honestly. I have no idea what it is about it, but I just love the combat in it. With most newer 2D fighters, I have the same issues Julian does (why did I buy this? I suck online). I am still interested in getting that DBZ Arc System Works game from earlier in the year, if for no other reason than the Angry Joe review pointed out earning characters by playing the game. I seriously don't know why that isn't still more of a thing.

I'm pretty sure Viewtiful Joe is in Marvel v. Capcom Ultimate, if nothing else. Or whatever demo I played from last year's E3 that MvC game was.

I'm at the 31-minute mark and am somewhat glad I checked out while I think you were talking God of War, because I still haven't even gotten the shrink wrap off the copy I bought a month or so ago. Job hunting sucks.

Be back for the latter two thirds of this.

I don't think I've spoiled anything about the story of God of War, just expressed my displeasure for Atreus and the combat camera.

Crap, are you off twitter? I wanted you to DM me about guesting on the show. You can message me here, but it will take me longer to get to it.

Well, if that's the case, I may actually go ahead and get back on. I'm pretty available these days, seeing how my job is now finding a job (and eventually, at some point, getting off my ass and signing up for this VIP KID thing someone was kind enough to give me a referral code for; you'd think $22/hour would motivate me more, but when you teach and expect a vacation ...). I just have enough tweets on there to wonder if I'll get "James Gunn"'d at some point, which freaks me out way more in the middle of job searching. Then again, I never made THOSE jokes, so I'm probably just paranoid.

I wasn't accusing you of spoiling anything, sorry. I just meant I was going to skip that part just in case. I ended up listening to it, but didn't comment on here cause I think we already discussed what you mentioned on Twitter.

I have subtitles on for everything now, because I can't friggin' hear anything any more. That's only a problem with new stuff.

I liked the detective stuff in Detroit's demo as well ... even if it is exactly the same thing as the Arkham Origins and Knight crime scene recreations. Except better, because finding clues actually changes outcomes.

I kinda figured you might get sidetracked by the cabaret club, because it's an actual minigame instead of just button mashing in a menu sometimes. I feel like they could have made that more interesting. Have you tried the pocket circuit racing yet?

Barcadia in Dallas doesn't have free games. Dammit. I need to find one of these places where the machines are free. I want to say I played on the Adam's Family machines as a kid before. Probably in a movie theater lobby or some such.

Are Yu-Gi Oh cards worth anything, currently? Asking for myself. And uh ... well, that got poitical. As did Angelo's Twitter, I noticed before I deactivated. Man, that has become a toxic, toxic place (not because of Angelo, just in general). You've never seen Angelo use an emoji, while I've never *seen* Angelo emote at all. Surprised

I'm stopped at 1:04:55, so I'll come back for Patrick's Bloc Chain (?) talk.

Congratulations on all the exciting stuff you have going on, Patrick! Since I'm at a crossroads in my life, I think I'll take your advice and start blindly investing in BitCoin.

I didn't know about that Mortal Kombat movie involving James Wann (Hereditary director producing an MK flick? Yes, please) and Russo. Is that related to that short that came out on YouTube forever ago?

That was some uh ... interesting dead air at the end. That's not an editing suggestion; just what I'm telling myself I heard.
