Dan's Dad is my favorite. He would be great as an unlockable or DLC character.
Street Fighter: The AWOL Files
There are World Warriors that have yet to step into that ring!
Gunloc
First Appearance: Saturday Night Slam Masters (Arcade, 1993)
Last Seen: Ring of Destruction: Slam Masters II (JPN Arcade, 1994)
What, you don’t know who Gunloc is? I’m not surprised. He was in Saturday Night Slam Masters, an arcade wrestling game that had its share of fans, but never really caught on in America. It was popular enough in Japan to get an upgrade called Muscle Bomber Duo and a sequel called Ring of Destruction: Slam Masters II, but this franchise remains forgotten when it comes time for Capcom to get nostalgic. So why would I bring up an obscure character from an obscure Capcom arcade game? Well, when I was a lad I remember renting Saturday Night Slam Masters and reading Gunloc’s biography in the instruction manual, which contained the following line:
“Rumored to be related to a famous Street Fighter.”
Then I looked at his special move called the Sonic Fist. That clenched it, didn’t it? Gunloc was Guile’s brother! Apparently this was something unique to the English translation for Slam Masters and since then Capcom has stated that Gunloc is not related to Guile, but there’s precedence for him to appear in the Street Fighter franchise, relative or no. Mike Haggar appeared in Slam Masters, and we already know that Final Fight and Street Fighter take place in the same universe, so it’s only logical that the Slam Masters are also part of that same universe. The CWA (Capcom Wrestling Association, of course) is mentioned in Hugo’s SF III Second Impact ending, but only when Ryu is his final opponent. Incidentally, Gunloc is mentioned in that same ending, although he isn’t shown. As a side note, the character Blade from the Street Fighter: The Movie arcade game is revealed to be Gunloc and says that he’s Guile’s brother, but the less we talk about that game, the better.
Having already appeared in two games, Gunloc already has a moves set, albeit a limited one when compared to other Street Fighter characters. He’d need some more moves to stand toe to toe with the likes of Sagat and Ryu, but considering how many wrestlers and grapplers already populate the Street Fighter tournament Gunloc probably has the least chance of stepping into that ring as anyone on this list.
These characters add some flavor to the Street Fighter and Capcom universes, and it would be beyond awesome to see them added to a proper entry in the series. Of course, there are other characters that have popped up in these and other games over the years. Let us know who you would like to see make an appearance in the Street Fighter franchise and why in the comments section below.
