So Monster Hunter 3 Ultamate is my current obsession in gaming. Anyone else here enjoy the series at all?

Never before has a game so equally entertained and enraged me.

And I can't help feeling like this could be a very interesting way to spin off Pokemon...

Are you saying you want to hunt Pokémon? That's so cruel!

What do fishermen do? And farmers? It's been widely established that all living creatures are Pokemon so what happens when you have a fish dinner? A salad? A steak? You are eating Magicarp, Oddish and Miltanks.

Fishermen battle with their catches. Farmers probably do too.

I prefer it on Wii U as well. It is a pity that they are not making a Wii U version of the newest game.

It's always possible that they'll port it after the 3DS version releases, but that's unlikely.

Also, aaaaaalso, PS+ users get Monster Hunter Freedom Unite free this month on Vita. Laughing

I love the gigantic enemies. Not many games with Gigantic enemies anymore. Except Shadow of the Colossus, or Demons/Dark Souls. --Oh and that giant world in Super Mario 3.

The whole feel of the game is gigantic. I just hope the series continues to evolve past some of the more clunky and archaic features and functions. MH4 already looks to be making some good changes in this regard.

I'd love to see a more organic world on one of these games. I love just wandering out into Moga Woods and randomly exploring, hunting and gathering. Expand that to allow you to go between all of the environments, find a new storage system (drop-off chests to offload all of that swag you are gathering) and make there be more 'major' monsters appearing at a time. I just want to be able to go out for hours and 'live off the land', even take your friends to go wandering. I wonder if that was the intended direction with the PC MMO?

Good points! The sectioned off zones and timers feel like last gen game design.

Yes, the sectioned-off zones feel like a remnant of previous gens where there were technical reasons for them being in place. They are not necessary as much on modern systems. I can accept the timer for challenge missions or as a way to net better rewards but it is preposterous to have an arbitrary cut-off running over your head. I would also like to be able to stay in a world after finishing a quest.

I hate the 30 seconds to 1 minute of time to carve from the beast. Give you an option to return or stay longer and take your rewards to your box so you can continue to hunt.

The time limit pulls you out of the world. If you are having trouble with a beast and run out of potions or whetstones you should be able to take the time to go gather the material from the land and continue the hunt. I've done that before but with the timer restriction you feel rushed instead of taking the time to hunt and kill the beast properly. I've read stories of primal peoples who would hunt beasts for days and across vast distances. They certainly didn't stop after 50 minutes.
