Bomberman Hero Now Available on Virtual Console in PAL Territories

Can we have it in North America too?

While popular word at PixlBit is that the Virtual Console on the Wii is dead in the water, Nintendo and Hudson are intent on proving us wrong. The pair has released Bomberman Hero, originally on the Nintendo 64, to the service... in PAL territories.

Aussie-Nintendo reports that the game was released on the PAL Virtual Console this week. The game has been rated by the ESRB, but whether or not the game will actually be released in North America has yet to be seen. A number of games, including Earthbound, have received an ESRB rating, but never were released to the service. In other words: Maybe. Probably. Kinda.

Like all of the other games released to the Virtual Console for the N64, Bomberman Hero is a Nintendo published title. Because Bomberman 64 was also published by Nintendo, it's possible that it will make its way to the Virtual Console as well. Bomberman 64: The Second Attack, on the other hand, won't likely see release as Nintendo was not in charge of its publication.

For any PixlBit readers who have access to the PAL Virtual Console and are curious as to how Bomberman Hero holds up, be sure to check out Katherine's Tour de 64 feature on the game.

Hopefully we do get this game. I've been wanting to try out a N64 Bomberman game. Not to mention I've been waiting for Neo Bomberman for the NEO GEO, and Blazing Star too.

Initially developed by Bandai Namco, it was later scrapped completely and development was shifted back to Retro Studios to start the project over. In the end, Retro has delivered a solid new entry in the series, but one that doesn’t totally capture what originally made the series so compelling.
