Soulcalibur V Announced

The next installment of Namco Bandai's tale of souls and swords hits Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012.

Three years after the release of Soulcalibur IV, Soulcalibur V was officially announced by Namco Bandai last night. Due out for a 2012 release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the next installation of the weapon-based fighting series will return in all of its violent and chesty glory.

The game was shown to media at the Namco Bandai sponsored event, Level Up Dubai 2011. There the game was introduced with a teaser trailer which confirmed the likes of the characters Siegfried and Nightmare, two of the series’ most notable characters. Soulcalibur V tells a story that takes place 17 years after the events of Soulcalibur IV. No gameplay footage was seen, however it was announced that the game's story focuses on the son of Soulcalibur veteran, Sophitia. This character's name is Patroklos and all that is currently known of him is that somehow, his fate is intertwined with this tale of souls and swords.

Namco Bandai has put up a teaser site that will feature information, and possibly a better quality version of the teaser trailer in a couple of minutes, so watch out for that.

Our Take Comment: It’s good to see fighting games making a glorious return. With the likes of the Street Fighter 4 series, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, and Mortal Kombat all making themselves known, SoulCalibur will likely see a welcome return.

This was pretty much expected after the ambiguous teaser site went up. Glad to see it's happening, but I still haven't played much of IV, so maybe I should get on that first.

Sounds Awesome. I'm a huge SC fan. Good to know they haven't forgotten about us.

If it's due for 2012 then it's gotta be on Nintendo's next console, and hopefully they won't change their minds and make another bad decision like making that defect of a Soul Calibur game for Wii.
