After spending quite a bit of time with the beta, this delay is painful. But I'd rather have a polished, stable experience than have the game release buggy and rushed.
Diablo III Delayed to 2012
Get your click on early next year.
Blizzard is one of the few game developers to have the luxury of releasing a game “when it’s done”. Considering that the company was able to release both Starcraft 2 and the Cataclysm expansion for World of Warcraft in one year it should come as no surprise that they have decided to delay Diablo III.
In a formal announcement on Battle.net, Mike Morhaime with Blizzard broke the bad news: Diablo III will be coming out in early 2012. “I know that many of you were hopeful that Diablo III would ship this year. We were too,” said Morhaime in his post. “However, this week we pulled together people from all of the teams involved with the game to decide whether we felt it would be ready before the end of December, and we grudgingly came to the conclusion that it would not.”
The good news is that the open beta for the game has been extended, and more people are going to be able to get in. For those that don’t make it into the beta, however, “good” may be a relative term. That means that more people can continue to tell those outside of the beta how awesome the game is, twisting the knife of delay a little more. For those of you that don’t make it into the beta, you have plenty of time to get that clicking finger into shape before Diablo III gets released early next year.
