Uncharted 3 to Utilize PSN Pass

Naughty Dog's latest will require a code to play online.

In an interview with The Vault, Juan Jimeñez, Sony’s software manager for Spain, confirmed that gamers wishing to utilize the online multiplayer features for Uncharted 3 will have to enter a PSN Pass access code in order to do so.

Gamers who purchase the game used or use rental services like GameFly and Redbox will have to buy the pass online for $10 if they want access to these features. While online passes are certainly nothing new, Sony has only recently started their program with the release of Insomniac’s Resistance 3.

I really feel that the online pass is a bad idea. If you want to give people incentive to buy the new copy of the game, you should add something that appeals to gamers instead of giving the impression of taking something away.

Adding to the discussion. Uncharted 3 isn't even known for its multiplayer. No one who buys this game used is going to pay for the multiplayer. Bad move, Sony. Resistance 3 made sense as people will want to try multiplayer on that game (myself included) but not Uncharted.

Initially developed by Bandai Namco, it was later scrapped completely and development was shifted back to Retro Studios to start the project over. In the end, Retro has delivered a solid new entry in the series, but one that doesn’t totally capture what originally made the series so compelling.
