Fans of Dark Souls Compete for Rare Items

It's not too late to score epic loot.

Dark Souls, the spiritual successor to 2009’s sleeper hit Demon’s Souls, is coming out in a matter of days. For fans of the punishing Action/RPG, publisher Namco Bandai has set up an interesting viral marketing campaign via the website preparetodie.com.

There, interested parties can gain “soul power” by registering, liking the Dark Souls Facebook page, and interacting on the website. This is obviously a way to give fans a chance to get more information about the game and its features, but in true, loot-hunting fashion, the website has deeper riches to find. Five hand-sculpted Dark Souls statues are up for grabs. These will not be sold in stores or reproduced, so the lucky winners will have a truly original and exclusive piece of gaming memorabilia.

Dark Souls comes out on October 4th for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but you can still get over to the website if you want to try to win one of these unique prizes.

How much you want to bet that at least one of these ends up on ebay?

Wow. I just realized that Dark Souls and RAGE are coming out on the same day. Two great games I want to try out.

Oh and I'd say that not many people will put them on eBay because not too many people know about Dark Souls, let alone this promotion (until now) and the ones that do will want this for themselves. Still, you'll see several on eBay.

I have a feeling that these are going to go the way of the Nintendo World Championship gold carts. They probably won't be as sought after or legendary, but since there's only five of them, people are going to be trying to track down the winners in a few years.
