Fifth Installment of Assassin's Creed Confirmed for December 2012

Desmond's tale will be coming to an end next holiday season.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations hasn’t even hit store shelves yet and Ubisoft has already confirmed another installment of the popular series for December 2012.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Revelations creative director Alexandre Amacio suggested that we will be seeing the end of Desmond Miles’ story next year.

"In Assassin's Creed we set up a timeline with this whole end of the world plot of December 2012.  That's fast approaching, and the story we have to tell, we obviously need to do it before we arrive at that point."

While Desmond’s tale will be ending, this doesn’t mean that the franchise itself is going away any time soon.

"Assassin's Creed is all about cycles,” said Amacio. “We have the Ezio cycle and the Altair cycle, and both of those are set to conclude in Revelations and we have the Desmond cycle, which is set to end on December 2012.  But there's many cycles within the brand - that's the whole point. History is our playground."

This would be the conclusion of a five game run for Ubisoft Montreal who began the series back in 2007 and has since had annual releases similar to Activision’s Call of Duty franchise.  When asked about this release schedule, Amacio noted that this too would be coming to an end next year.

"We're already structuring the way we do Assassin's Creed, so it will no longer ever be like that.  Our development approach is changing so our cycles aren't structured the same way - so it gives us a little bit more development time."

I love Assassin's Creed, but I think Ubisoft is really running it into the ground. I see they plan to make changes, but it may be a little too late.

I feel the same way, Nick. I loved the first game and I've been dying to play the second, Brotherhood and the upcoming Revelations. However, a yearly installment is killing this franchise and I'm less excited for each iteration as they announce them.

Judging from what all was heard from Ubisoft about the game at E3, I would expect this fifth installment to be very, very different from the most recent three, and likely very different from the first at the same time.

Edit: Of course I just realized I'm parroting the news story. Whoops.

I really don't get some people. What the hell are you complaining about? Do they release the games too often for you? The gameplay is awsome, "yea alittle buggy during revelations but come on, do you realize how insanely complicated that game is, especially compared with other games today? It's like a .. primitive preview of how videogames will be like 50 years from now:p So yea, gameplay is epic, but the storymode is of equal awsomeness as to the lord of the rings if u ask me.

I spent the last 3months playing through each game, started with the first.. which sucked balls, sure nice gameplay but missions were on repeat:p rest of the games the story of it all picked up and I started realizing how epic it all were.

I often hear the question "what is wrong with people today?" well I'll tell you, when people get to much to focus their attention on, they fail to appreciate it all and starts to whine about the negative details instead, since its in such few numbers that their little minds can comprehend it.

I'll share some wisdom with you. Enjoy and appreciate what you can, don't ruin it by focusing on what remains. Peace!

i absolutely love the assasins creed series. the 1st one was kind of a "meh" storyline, but the way u as a player have the freedom to do what ever the hell u wanted was awsome. then came AC2. withthe introduction of ezio. Storyline GREATLY improved, and so did gameplay, then with ACbrotherhood and Revelations how they brought altair back into the history and storyline, then made everything more relevant to desmond is outstanding. definatly not going to see many games that have the same style, and way of making the series into pure epicness. CANT WAIT FOR AC5!!!

Love all four games. I can't wait to see what direction they take the franchise in. China, revolutionary war, wild west, whatever. I'm sure it would be great! Maybe even the prohibition era! Thanks Ubisoft, for putting out quality games!
