GOOD! I prefer things be kept in one place. From a business stand point it makes sense to have two separate entities but this is much more convenient.
Netflix Gives the Ax to Qwikster
Qwikster is dead, long live Netflix!
Earlier this month Netflix shocked its user base with the announcement that they would be splitting off their physical DVD/Blu Ray rental operation into a new service called Qwikster which would also feature a video game rentals to compete with companies like GameFly. This meant that if current Netflix subscribers wanted both digital and physical subscription models, they would have to have accounts with both services.
The response from customers and the online community at large was explosive with many understandably outraged by the idea that they were going to maintain two accounts where they once only had to maintain one – an ill timed idea in light of the recent price hikes as well. It seems that the powers that be at the mighty rental service heard the outcry and have responded in kind.
By killing Qwikster.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings posted the news today on the company blog saying that users will only need one account to get all their movie and future video game needs.
“It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs.
This means no change: one website, one account, one password… in other words, no Qwikster.”
There is no word at this time when Netflix will begin offering video game rentals, but you can be sure that the folks here at PixlBit will keep you posted.
