The Future of Silent Hill Revealed

Konami has a three month block of terror planned.

Things have been a little slow in the Silent Hill department for a while now. It’s been two years since Silent Hill: Shattered Memories came out for the Wii, and that was more of a remake of the first game than an entirely new entry in the series. News on the future of the franchise had slowed to a trickle after the delay of Silent Hill: Downpour. Well, consider this a flood of information, as 2012 will see not one, but three releases bearing the Silent Hill name.

The first one is a known quantity: Silent Hill HD Collection. This compilation of Silent Hill 2 and 3 will be released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on January 24th. The press release from Konami makes no comment on the possibility of the original voice work being included in the game, as we reported recently.

In February, new owners of the PS Vita will be able to pick up Silent Hill: Book of Memories. The plot involves your character finding a book that contains their entire life and memories, but events can be changed by altering the book. This is a wholly new Silent Hill game with a top-down perspective, and it will support multiplayer co-op play.

March is the main event, when Silent Hill: Downpour gets released. This is the first HD console release since 2008, and stars convicted felon Murphy Pendleton, who ends up in the titular town when his prison bus crashes.

That’s a lot of Silent Hill in a short period of time. Which games are you looking forward to?

So is the HD collection only going to be a download on XBL and PSN? I imagine it would be, who makes hard copies anymore? Crysis and RE4 didn't even get hardcopy ports to current consoles, despite how awesome those games are, they just weaseled their ways into XBL. I would like to play the HD collection because I haven't played SH 2 or 3 before. If they're only available for download I might just have to suck the sack of the stupid downloadable content trend and go download them for myself. It's lame not being able to hold a game in your hands, especially a good game.

Konami is collecting the games as they are for Metal Gear Solid and Zone of the Enders, so they will be in physical disc format. No need to buck your trend;)

What?! Hell yea then, I'm on board. Lets get this butter on a roll lol. That's great it'll be in physical disc format, I'm excited about that. I missed the opportunity to play the games last hardware cycle so I've been needing to experience those for quite a long while.

Yeah, I prefer my stuff on disc. I looked into ordering the import copy of Resident Evil 4/Code Veronica because they got both games on a disc, but I couldn't justify the extra price, and I didn't know if there was an English text option.
