Halo CE Kinect Support Isn't on the Disc

You'll also be able to play the Anniversary maps in Halo: Reach.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary features Kinect support, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the game’s box. You’ll see it mentioned if you’re one of those gamers who still cracks open the instruction manual, but the reason for the lack of Kinect notification on the box stems from the fact that the feature isn’t on the game disc.

What happened? Well, it comes down to a simple matter of quality control. "The Kinect features in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary are something we have been working on for some time," said a representative for 343 Industries in an interview with Kotaku. “…we chose not to rush things for the retail release and instead focus on a quality update timed for launch day. Because the Kinect features require users to have access to Xbox Live, it's not something we could advertise on the box as shipping with the game."

The Kinect support--which allows players to do things like select and analyze enemies and objects as well as navigate menus—will be part of an automatic game update on launch day. Bungie always took great care to maximize the quality of the Halo series—they didn’t recommend installing Halo 3 to hard drives because it would impact performance, for example. It looks like 343 Industries is taking the torch from Bungie and treating it with care.

You’ll see some of that care with Halo CE Anniversary’s new multiplayer maps, which are part of the $40 package. But if you own Halo: Reach and don’t plan on taking that walk down memory lane you can still play these 7 maps. The map pack will be available on Xbox Live when Halo CE comes out on November 15 for 1200 Microsoft points ($15). The maps are Battle Canyon, Breakneck, High Noon, Penance, Ridgeline, Solitary, and Installation 04.

Hot Story

In Memory of Michael Alvarado

When 1up started the process of shutting down, there was one person who seemed to lead to charge to congregate the community in a single place. After his first visit here, it wasn't long before a slew of new members arrived. The site came alive and the real story of PixlBit began - the one that involves all of you. The person I'm referring to is, of course, Michael Alvarado, otherwise known as Michael117.
