Super Street Fighter II Coming to Virtual Console with Online Play

Though the game has seen release elsewhere in HD, Nintendo's barren Virtual Console landscape is getting a notable addition.

Wii fans holding out for a new Virtual Console addition hopefully won't have to wait much longer. Capcom is currently working on preparing the Genesis/Mega Drive version of Super Street Fighter II for release on the platform. Despite being released remastered in HD on XBLA and PSN, the game is still due to hit the Wii to capture the rest of the market in its original form - well, mostly. Online play is being integrated into the experience, allowing both US and EU gamers to go online with this well-regarded classic.

At this time, it's unknown what netcode will drive the online play or when the game will be released in each of the planned regions. For now, hopeful fans will just have to wait a while longer for more details on its release.

Pretty cool to see this, but it's a bit late if you ask me. The Virtual Console is basically dead and we've seen this game on other platforms at a better resolution already.

I'm sure they'll get plenty of purchases regardless, but it's sad that it has taken so long to get such an iconic game out with the expected online functionality.

Why now? That's what I want to know. Why do this now? They've released how many versions of Street Fighter on the VC? Why wait until now to do this, when another game was released about a year ago that has this functionality.

What's funny is that I have the Genesis version of this game and I was going to do a review of it but then it turned into why even bother with this version when there are better ones and that turned into me not even writing it because I figured no one would care about the game, let alone an article telling you not to care about the game. Yet here we are.
