PlayStation Vita Memory Card Pricing Leaked

Get ready to bend over and kiss your wallet goodbye...

If you're planning on buying a PlayStation Vita on launch day on February 22, 2012, you're going to need to put quite a bit extra aside. Not for the handheld itself, but for its mandatory memory cards used for downloads and game saves. GameStop has posted a tentative listing for the memory cards, complete with prices.

Vita memory cards will come in four sizes: 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB. They'll be priced at $29.99, $44.99, $69.99 and $119.99, respectively. The flash memory in use is completely proprietary, disallowing players to pick up one of the more standard memory modules already on the market, including Sony's own Memory Stick Pro Duo.

Well, I hope the memory cards come with a puppy and magic fairies because that's the only reason why memory cards should be that much money. I feel like Sony should at least buy me dinner first...

I have to agree with Esteban, the price of admission here just went up with these "memory cards." I can buy a standard 32 GB SD card for the cost of the low end Vita model here, which is utterly ridiculous.

Lately, I've been considering purchasing a Vita, if not for a handful of games (mostly ports,) for the ability to give impressions and all that. However, I just can't get behind this whole memory card thing. We've talked about it before on PixlTalks and PB & Jasons. My hope? Some 3rd Party creates a micro SD adapter for these cards. If it costs $15 and I can use memory cards I already have, I'm all for it.

How much you want to bet the the cards are identical to others but they have some little hash code right at the first layer saying it's authorized?

Hey! Hey! The plastic is shaped different, too!

This is so childish and greedy I can't even think of a witty comment to make fun of it.
