Ezio's Famous Garb to Appear in Final Fantasy XIII-2

Hey, you got your Assassin's Creed in my Final Fantasy!

Ezio has been making the rounds lately. Earlier it was announced that he’ll be making a cameo in next year’s edition of Soul Calibur V and today it was revealed that his famous costume will be available in some form in the next title in the mega-franchise, Final Fantasy.

Square Enix made the announcement that Ezio’s iconic assassin’s garb will be made available as a downloadable costume theme in January’s release of Final Fantasy XIII-2. The costume will be tailored to the game’s main character Noel, but it isn’t known whether it will be free or available at a premium.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 launches on January 31, 2012 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

This seems like a really weird thing to do. I can believe the cross-franchise utilization, but this just seems like they picked a random character from the recent AAA character phone book.

And awful character designs? Not every one is great, but to use a double awful?

Yeah, I agree, this is really weird. Also, what's wrong with Nomura's character designs? I always thought they were pretty good, not that I'm any connoisseur of art or anything.

Nomura hasn't had a new idea in ten years. It's nothing but spikey hair, zippers, Bermuda shorts, and oh-so merchandisible necklaces. He's a fine artist, but it makes everything that comes out of Square look identical.

I'm not sure I understand why they'd do this. Unless Ubisoft really wants Assassin's Creed to become a cultural phenomenon, there's not much point, as far as I can tell.

I think it's at least a sign that SE is paying attention to Western games. It's probably an attempt to bring in a wider audience.
