3DS Ambassadors Can Now Get Their GBA Rewards

This completes the goodies promised to early adopters of the 3DS.

As suspected, North American 3DS Ambassadors can now download the same GBA games that were announced for other regions.  Once this batch of GBA games are downloaded, there will be no further freebies given out to those who purchased a 3DS and connected to the eShop prior to August 12, 2011.

Initiated as a way to make amends to those who paid the original asking price of $250 for a 3DS, the Ambassador program gave early adopters 20 emulated games from the NES and GBA to play on their new handheld system.

In order to download the games, follow the same procedure used when the NES games became available.  Go into the eShop and select the “Settings” option.  From there, enter the “Download History” and scroll through the list of games until you find the GBA titles.  Each game will have the option to “Redownload,” even though this will be your first time to download.

So, if you qualify for this program, head over and download your goodies.  Just be aware that the sleep feature on the 3DS will not operate normally when playing a GBA game, and the visuals have the same blurriness that DS games have when played on the system.

Talk about gaming gluttony. I'm saving these games for later. Zelda and Mario Advance Three are pretty epic by themselves, but then Wario Land 4, Fire Emblem, etc on top of that? They'll come in handy during those dry periods...

I now have tons of games that I missed on Game Boy Advance. If you're listening, thank you Nintendo!

Minish Cap is a pretty sweet Zelda game that ya'll shouldn't miss. But everything else for me is pretty much new! These will take awhile.

Hey look, a bunch of games I already own and have played to death. Hooray!

Nick: That sarcasm's no fair, because you own everything!

The only games I'm interested in are the Wario games, and they are the only ones I care from this "giveaway". Every other game I already own, or just didn't care for on their first go around.

I missed out on most of these the first time around, so for me it is a boon. Much better than the NES games they gave out.

@Kathrine - Fair enough on the owning part though I have played the crap out of all of these games. They were all pretty popular games, which I guess makes them a good choice, if you haven't owned every one of Nintendo's handhelds. I'm guessing many of the ambassadors are having a similar problem.

As silly as it may sound, I would've gladly taken a coupon towards a brand new game than the whole lot of 20 games they provided.

I own only 4 of the 10 (or 3 technically since I have Yoshi's Island on the SNES), so it's a decent deal for me. Though I think this list is much better than the NES list, which contained a lot of junk games that feel like they were on there just to inflate the numbers, whereas most of the games on this GBA list are ones people would actually buy on the eShop. Saying "20 free games!" certainly sounds better than 10, now doesn't it?

Let's not forget that Nintendo didn't have to offer any sort of compensation for the price drop. Prices are cut all the time, and every early adapter knows that it comes with the risk of the item's price falling considerably in the near future. Myself, I have never heard of any company offering something to early adapters for price drops. I sure wish I got free games for buying a GameCube at launch...

That said, some people value these games at $130 (at the assumed eShop prices of $5 for NES, $8 for GBA), which is ridiculous. If they were actually worth that much, why can I not sell my 3DS for $300 ($170 system, $130 games)? In fact, I've looked around at several different points over the past few months, and I have yet to see Ambassador 3DS systems sell for more than $170. Even never-used Ambassador systems barely sell more than current retail. So clearly, I am not the only one who sees little value in these games.

I also would have taken something of "lesser value" over these games, were it offered. A $40 eShop credit is half the price cut and less than a third of the supposed value of the games, and I'd have gladly taken that.
