Vita Launch Sales Figures Made Available

Sony's new handheld doesn't stumble out the door.

The PlayStation Vita was released this past weekend in Japan and the first round of sales figures are starting to come in.  While not breaking any records, it looks like Sony’s latest handheld did pretty well in the land of the rising sun.

In just the first two days on the market (December 17th and 18th) the PlayStation Vita posted sales figures of 321,407, as reported by Famitsu.com via Andriasang.  These sales are a marked improvement when compared to the PSP’s 166,074 units sold in the same time frame and come relatively close to matching the 3DS’ two-day launch sales of 371,326.

Percentage sell through figures are expected to be available later in the week and will paint a more vivid picture of the Vita’s initial performance in Japan.  Even still, the initial indication is that the Vita is no day one flop.

The PlayStation Vita will be released in North America and Europe on February 22, 2012.
