Talk about about climbling the ladder...
That would be nice though, to be introduced at E3 as president Kaz. That's when you know that #$%! is going to get real son.
The legendary SCEA front man may have a ton of new responsibility.
UPDATE: Sony has confirmed Hirai's promotion. Effective April 1, 2012, Kaz Hirai will be the new President and CEO of Sony, while current President and CEO Howard Stringer will be named Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective June 2012.
ORIGINAL STORY (01-06-12): Kazuo “Kaz” Hirai is a name synonymous with Sony and the PlayStation brand. Since joining Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) in 1995, he has helped shape the video game division of Sony into the powerhouse that it is today. The word on the street is that the man behind so many memorable press conference moments (Riiiidge Racer!) is about to get a serious promotion. Yes, it looks like Mr. Hirai is all set to step up as the next President of Sony.
The Japanese news service Nikkei reported today that Sony plans to elevate Kaz Hirai to President as early as April. Current President Howard Stringer would still be with the company as chairman and CEO. Kaz was promoted twice in 2011; in April he was bumped up to Executive Deputy President, and in September he was given the title of SCE Chairman.
A report from Bloomberg has further word from Sony, who says that they have not yet made a formal decision to raise Hirai to President. With the upcoming North American launch of the PS Vita and rumblings of a PS4 announcement at E3 later this year, Sony may need a President that can attack the enemies’ weak point for massive damage. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
