Rumor: Call of Duty Black Ops 2 in 2012?
Activision has multiple Black Ops domain names registered,
Call of Duty is a name gamers see over and over, and with good reason—it makes Activision a ton of money. Since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, each subsequent game in the series has topped the previous entry in sales. Since Infinity Ward released Modern Warfare 3 last year, the next title is in the hands of Treyarch, if the development trend continues. But what would they be working on? A return to WW II? A wholly new entry in the series? How about a sequel to Black Ops, the most successful game for the team to date?
Thanks to some domain digging by Fusible, we’ve learned that Activision has acquired the domain names for Black Ops, all the way up to 6. This was done through the brand protection agency known as MarkMonitor. MarkMonitor handles over half of the Fortune 100, which Activision happens to be a part of.
This is in no way a confirmation that a new Black Ops game is in development, nor do we know for certain that Treyarch would be developing it. While the safe money is on Treyarch making Black Ops 2, only time will tell as to what is next for the Call of Duty franchise.
