GameStop Sales Total $3.02 Billion This Holiday

GameStop had a great holiday season.

The 2011 holiday shopping season was a strong one for GameStop and the retailer has announced a year-over-year sales increase of more than 5% during the nine-week period that ended December 31. Sales were $3.02 billion, up from $2.86 billion from last year.

New software sales were 9.9% more than last year's, thanks to the release of high profile titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Assassin's Creed Revelations. GameStop CEO Paul Raines also mentioned that Wii software sales were "weak" and were a factor in the offset sales of HD console software.

Used game sales also grew by 3.5% over last year's figure and by 7% year-to-date. Hardware sales dropped 19.6% for the period due to "no new console products or low enough price points to stimulate consumer demand." Digital sales grew an impressive 60% year-over-year, in large part because of Call of Duty: Elite.

Hot Story

In Memory of Michael Alvarado

The person I'm referring to is, of course, Michael Alvarado, otherwise known as Michael117.
