Twisted Metal Movie on the Horizon

Co-director of Ghost Rider to take on Sweet Tooth and company.

According to Deadline New York, we could end up seeing Sweet Tooth’s creepy and menacing grin on the big screen pretty soon.  Sony has reportedly made a deal with the co-director of the soon-to-be-released Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Brian Taylor, to write and direct a live action, big screen adaptation of the PlayStation’s iconic car combat game.

Avi Arad, producer of such Sony films as the entire Spider-Man franchise (yes, including the upcoming reboot) is on board to produce the project along with his brother Ari.

This would be the first solo project for Taylor, having always directed with a partner on projects like the Ghost Rider film and Crank.

The latest entry in the Twisted Metal series made its debut yesterday on the PlayStation 3.  Keep an eye on PixlBit for our review in the coming days as well as more details on the Twisted Metal movie as they become available.

This doesn't sound like a good idea at all lol, unless you're a huge fan of the aesthetic and "attitude" (for lack of a better term) of the series. TM games aren't meant to tell stories. There's no interesting stories to tell in the TM universe (there's not really a "universe" in the first place) and the characters are just cheesy bottom of the barrel horror stars waiting to get their own bottom of the barrel horror/action flick. There are plenty of franchises out there with universes that might be interesting to adapt to film like Bioshock, Uncharted, Gears of War, Condemned, and Halo etc, and all those series have been reported to have movies in the works at some point or another, but it's never happened. I don't think Twisted Metal has much chance at all to A: be made, and B: be any good.

My nostalgia for Twisted Metal and the enjoyment I had with the games back in the day isn't enough to blind me into thinking this movie idea would be any good. It's just car combat and racing around. That movie Death Race already came out a few years ago and it sucked, and I don't think a Twisted Metal movie would have anything more to offer.

Hot Story

In Memory of Michael Alvarado

When 1up started the process of shutting down, there was one person who seemed to lead to charge to congregate the community in a single place. After his first visit here, it wasn't long before a slew of new members arrived. The site came alive and the real story of PixlBit began - the one that involves all of you. The person I'm referring to is, of course, Michael Alvarado, otherwise known as Michael117.
