Side note: In my personal opinion, the YouTube app is all essentially broken. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem. Good news about the Indie Games though.
Indie Games on Xbox Live Get More Exposure
The latest dashboard update gives the indie scene more attention.
Last fall, a dashboard update changed the layout of the Xbox 360 interface to the new metro style currently being used. Among the various problems the new layout presented, such as connection problems with the UFC app, was the way indie games were promoted, in that they weren't. XBLIGs were buried under various menus and sub categories, making the task of finding them a quest in itself.
Microsoft released an update to the new dashboard this past week that gives more space to indie games and makes it easier to get to the XBLIG games in the marketplace. G4 is reporting that a statement released to Eurogamer confirms the changes and expands on them further. The statement states as follows:
As you've now noticed, the Xbox Live Marketplace was updated to change the way games are surfaced to customers. Microsoft is continually working to better organise our digital game content on the platform and your feedback played a part in that. Part of this new organisation means that Xbox Live Indie Games now has a tile on the top level of the marketplace right next to Xbox Live Arcade and Xbox Games on Demand. Inside of the new Xbox Live Indie Games section, you'll notice that there are New Release, Top Download, A-Z, and Genre options, as well as a rotating carousel that shows off Kotaku's Picks, Contest Finalists, and can be used to house other content as desired.
This update is something we are extremely excited about as it really brings Xbox Live Indie Games to a higher level of visibility in the dashboard. We believe these changes will help even more gamers find and experience the great offerings you've all developed for Xbox Live Indie Games.
