Double Fine Kickstarter Campaign has New Rewards for Backers

15 days left to get in on the action

In case you haven’t heard, Double Fine has a kickstarter campaign that’s paid off very well for them so far.  Currently, the ticker indicates they’ve been pledged over two and a half million dollars, and they’ve got some new incentives that might help push that number even higher.

A recent update to their kickstarter page added four new tiers with three new rewards.  A $30 pledge gets you the digital soundtrack of the documentary, 100 bucks ropes in a special edition box containing both the game disc and a DVD or Blu-Ray of the documentary, and the final new reward is the Double Fine adventure book.  The book itself also comes in multiple forms depending on pledge amount.  You can get it in hardcover physical form for a $500 pledge or in digital PDF format for $60.  $500 patrons will also receive all the rewards granted to lower tiers with the exception of a signed poster.

While no exact information was provided, it would appear that the amount they have raised has significantly changed their development plans. “Many of you have been asking if this means we’ll be taking a bit more time with the production, and the answer is yes. This is not a cute, quick little game anymore. This is the real deal. This is a capital-G Game.”

It also seems that the crew at Double Fine is aware that what’s happened here is unprecedented in games development.  The update contained this message, as part of a thank you to previous donors: “THANK YOU again for the incredible support you've given this project. You’ve changed the way we are thinking about it, and you’ve changed the way EVERYBODY is thinking about a lot of things.”

This ticker is still climbing crazy fast.  It's gone up 2 grand in the last hour!  I bet they hit 3 million before this thing is over.  This may sound strange, but if I were Tim Schafer, this would scare the crap out of me.  That's a lot of people paying very close attention to how someone spends a ton of their money!
