Wii Fit Plus Sells Strong in Japan
The value priced sequel takes the top sales spot.
Another casual Nintendo title will join the fold of hugely popular titles in Japan. Wii Fit Plus, the sequel to the original Wii Fit has beat out all other recent releases sales in Japan this past week.
Given the ¥2,000 ($22.49) price and the popularity of the original game, the success of Wii Fit Plus is not unexpected. According to Tsutaya merchandizer, Taketo Matsuo, most of the buyers are prior Wii Fit owners who don't need to invest in a Balance Board. Matsuo also explained that though sales are good, they are actually better than expected by Nintendo and retailers alike.
The game outperformed a number of other heavy-hitting Japanese titles that released alongside the software. Taking the second spot is Gran Turismo PSP, a series that usually sees excellent sales in the market. Inazuma Eleven was also outperformed as was Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Pokemon Gold and Silver, and Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce Special for the PS3.
