Reggie Talks Business With CNBC
He redefines the concept of "value" as he discusses business, and Nintendo's upcoming holiday season.
In an interview Monday with CNBC, the president of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime discussed the Wii price cut, Nintendo’s biggest consumer, and how they plan to stay innovative.
According to Reggie, the Wii price drop was timed specifically to coincide with the launch of Wii Fit Plus, a title he calls Nintendo’s “key product” for this upcoming holiday season. When asked whether or not he was worried about a potentially slow spending season, Reggie was confident, stating as long as Nintendo provides consumers with a “great value in terms of what they get for what they pay, they’ll be willing to spend.”
Moving on, Reggie declared that Nintendo’s largest retail consumer is in fact Walmart. Reggie does make sure to explain that Walmart is the biggest retial customer in areas that he overlooks, which includes the US, Canada, and Latin America.
During the interview Reggies also quells any fears about holiday shortages concerning their products, assuring consumers they have plenty to go around, and although they would “like to see shelves empty” they don’t anticipate that happening.
Reggie ends the interview by briefly mentioning the Wii vitality sensor, stating that in order to keep up in the market, an entertainment company must constantly be innovate, and the Wii vitality sensor will be Nintendo’s way of continuing to do just that.
