Assassin's Creed 3 Wii U Specific Controls Emerge

Access the Animus through Nintendo's unique tablet style controller.

While we still don’t have a release date for the Wii U version of Assassin’s Creed 3, the first bit of information regarding how the game will utilize the system’s unique tablet style controller has surfaced.

The upcoming issue of Nintendo Gamer magazine (via NintenGen) details some of the functionality that we can expect and emphasizes the use of the controller as a way for the player to interface with the Animus, the mechanism that allows Desmond to experience his ancestor’s adventures.

What this means is that the tablet will serve as an unobtrusive HUB that will display an on-screen map and navigation tool, contain a touchscreen weapon selection function and serve as an alternate method to view Eagle Vision.  Additionally players will be able to access the Animus database, which will display encyclopedic entries on historical characters, places and events.

More details are expected to be revealed as we get closer to the game’s release date and this year’s E3 may serve as the venue for those reveals.

Unless Nintendo releases the Wii U ahead of their typical late November release window and this version is available alongside the 360/PS3 ones, I'll be grabbing it on the 360. It's too bad though, I'd rather have this on Wii U given the tablet upgrades.

Yeah - thought I think that the Wii U may have an October release.  I'm going to call it now.

I was thinking September, actually. Just because they have some history releasing in that time frame (N64, SNES was close). It would be an interesting move on Nintendo's part, especially since they'd hopefully already be negotiating with companies to get games on Wii U for the holiday season that are already coming to the 360/PS3. This would be a prime candidate, I'd imagine.

Here's to hoping an official release date is revealed at E3.

End of June. A huge wishful thought, I know.

You're not willing to wait just a month for what you perceive to be the better version of a game? Surely you of all people have stuff to play in the meantime.
