Last Wednesday someone somewhere accidentally listed Crysis 3 on Origin. The listing was, of course, almost immediately pulled down, but the internet never forgets what has been posted on it and soon the gaming media was abuzz with articles like this one. Later in the day, EA issued a statement that declared, "The best kept secret in shooters just can’t be contained. Stay tuned for more information on April 16th." Well, April 16th is here and EA has delivered on their promise. So just what did we learn today?
Crysis 3 now officially exists and is being developed by Crytek GmbH for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. The game is slated for a spring 2013 release, so gamers that thought that the Origin slip-up indicated that it would be coming sooner than later will have do a little more waiting.
EA describes the next iteration of the Crysis series as a “premier sandbox shooter experience.” Players will once again assume the role of ‘Prophet’ as he returns to an entrapped New York City. The Cell Corporation has enclosed the city in a Nanodome, referred to as the New York City Liberty Dome. The dome has had a strange effect on the local ecosystem, covering the concrete jungle in dense foliage, rendering it practically unrecognizable, but still familiar.
Early images of the game show Prophet armed with a pretty cool-looking bow and we can now confirm that it will be available in the game, just not right away in multiplayer. Players who wish to have early access to this tool and its attachments will have to pre-order the Hunter Edition. In addition to early access to the bow, the Hunter Edition will also feature the Hunter Nanosuit module – a beefed up version of the super-suit – a bonus XP boost up to level 5, a unique skin for the bow, and three exclusive dog tags.
Also, select retailers will be offering the following multiplayer unlocks with the Hunter Edtion:
- Stalker Pack — Includes the base game, all Hunter Edition content and the following early multiplayer unlocks: for players who like to stalk their prey from the shadows the Stalker Pack provides early multiplayer access to the deadly semi-auto Jackal shotgun. This powerful, close-range shotgun comes with a unique silencer attachment, custom weapon skin and two exclusive themed in-game dog tags.
- Overkill Pack — Includes the base game, all Hunter Edition content and the following early multiplayer unlocks: the Overkill Pack features early multiplayer access to the Typhoon assault weapon and skin. Spewing 500 rounds a second, the Typhoon gives players the ability to go guns blazing to take back the Liberty Dome. Also included are two exclusive Overkill themed in-game dog tags.
- Predator Pack — Includes the base game, all the Hunter Edition content and the following early multiplayer unlocks: the Predator Pack delivers early multiplayer access to the Feline submachine gun and exclusive camo. With an extremely fast rate of fire and a 60 round magazine the Feline is highly effective and deadly, at short range.
The retailers involved are unknown at this point, nor is it clear if each pack will be only available at certain retailers or if they will all be made available.

In reality, the Nanodomes are CELL’s covert attempt at a land and technology grab in their quest for global domination. With Alien Ceph lurking around every corner and human enemies on the attack, nobody is safe in the path of vengeance. Everyone is a target in Prophet’s quest for retribution.
