We're looking for writers and other help.

As you may have noticed, PixlBit content has been slowing down lately. We want to keep bringing you great reviews, previews, editorials, and features, but we could use a little more help. We have a great community and we know many of you love to write, so why not write for the main site too? Applying is easy and only requires you to provide a bit of writing so that we can assess your skills.

We want writers with a passion for games and for sharing that passion with others. It doesn't matter if you love sports games or RPGs – we want fans of all genres on board.

All applicants should make it a point to visit our Policies page, as it will give a clear understanding of what PixlBit expects from its writers. If you choose to submit a review for your application, take heed of the following bullet point from our review policy:

In our reviews, we'll try not to bore you with minutiae of a game. Instead, we'll outline what makes the game good or bad, and focus on telling you whether or not it is worth your time as opposed to what button makes you jump.

We have a probationary period of 30 days that allows every new writer to give the site a shot and determine if it's something for them.

If writing isn't your thing, we can also use some help in other positions:

Assistant Media Manager - This position is one of the most important on the site, involving keeping the game database up to date, loading media as it comes in, and posting videos to our YouTube account.

User Experience Engineer - PixlBit is always growing in new and unique ways and we could use the experienced eye of UX expert to help us implement the best possible interfaces for our community. If you've done some of this professionally or semi-professionally, please, send over your qualifications.

SEO Expert - While the community we've already got here at PixlBit is fantastic, we're always looking to expand our reach to new readers and there's no better way to do that than to get better search engine placement and greater visibility on the web. If you've got some knowledge in this arena and can lend your expertise (on a volunteer basis) we'd be eternally indebted to you!

Help keep PixlBit a great site for our wonderful community! Jump over to the Hiring page for the full details on exactly what you need to apply.

If you still have questions about any of this before formally applying, feel free to send us an email at jobs AT pixlbit DOT com.

Is this strictly a volunteer job? Are there any perks involved? Good writing is a lot of work and new games cost money. Money Mouth

The only "payment" you will receive is in the form of review copies. We don't get ALL games we review from publishers, but we get a fair amount. You will never be required to buy a game strictly for review. If you are buying  a game on day one (or close) and we have no review copy, then oftentimes we'd like you to review it if possible. All of this assumes that you are interested in writing reviews and not just other types of posts. If you want more specific details, feel free to send an email to the jobs AT pixlbit DAWT com address.

As far as perks go (and this is really cheesy) all we can offer you is the satisfaction of having your work posted on a website with good traffic and a very active community. It is surprisingly satisfying. Also, you can use this as an opportunity to improve your writing and build up a catalog of work should you decide to try and get writing work elsewhere. Of course, we don't want you to leave us, so ignore that last bit.

Yeah, it's a labor of love, but I've gotten the opportunity to play a lot of games that I never would have on my own. It also allows you to put something new on the resume. Believe it or not, PixlBit may just end up being responsible for getting me a new day job, which is pretty fantastic.

I'll apply and see if you guys want me on the team. I always wanted to write for a site and while I can apply for a different site, I would have to split my stuff on 2 sites. So why not here? I can do posts, and still blog here, it's a win-win for me. So if you're looking for someone with a vast (well someone who knows alot) knowledge about Nintendo, then I'm your guy. I can do both post and reviews on Nintendo related stuff, but I can do stuff on the others so you can see how flexible I can be about writing. So expect an application form soon.

Edit: Just sent my application.

Just as a quick update, we haven't formally responded to anyone yet. Applications are still coming in, which is awesome! You WILL hear back from us once we really dig in to the great submissions we've received.

Everyone who has applied at this point (7/2/2013 - 21:45 CDT) should have gotten an email response. We had a great turn out and loved reading everyone's writing samples.
