Madden NFL Arcade Revealed

Play some 5-on-5 football in this EA Tiburon-developed downloadable title.

EA Sports recently announced Madden NFL Arcade, a 5-on-5 football game coming to XBLA and PSN in December for 1,200 Microsoft Points or $14.99.

The game will feature all 32 NFL teams and their stadiums as the five best offensive and defensive players battle to get to 30 points (or whatever you want) first.

There's a 60-yard field in this abbreviated version of football and each team is given four downs to try to score a touchdown - field goals, punting and penalties are not allowed.

In addition, there's many "Game Changers" that do things such as freeze opposing players or turn off your opponent's passing icons.

“When you look around the office and see your whole team playing and having tons of fun with it, you know the game hit the right mark,” said Nathan Stewart, EA Tiburon's marketing director. “We have diehard Madden fans who have worked on the franchise for a decade, and more casual gamers who are all playing together and enjoying it. If our productivity the past few weeks is any indication, we’ve created a game that everyone will love.”

Madden NFL Arcade features multiplayer and co-op with up to four players on a single console, and also has online head-to-head matchups and leaderboards.

This looks like the Wii Madden, but changed up for a downloadable XBLA/PSN release.

The Wii Madden at E3 was actually quite a bit of fun, too. I'm not typically a big Madden fan, or I should say haven't been lately, but that was great. Seeing it with some better graphics and more standard controller support is cool. I may actually pick this up.

I haven't followed the Wii Madden at all, but this does sound really cool. The last Madden I tried was 2007 and I just hated having to learn a new control feature seemingly every day.

I'll probably pick this up on 360. Maybe I can make the Bills actually win a game.
