Red Octane President Predicts Slow Sales For DJ Hero

Sales will rely heavily on word of mouth and in-store demos.

DJ Hero sales are expected to be low according to Kai Huang, president of Red Octane, who spoke at the PLAY Digital Media Conference in Berkeley, Calif.

IGN reported that Activision is anticipating long-term sales that will be benefitted by in-store demostrations and word of mouth, much like Harmonix and Red Octane's start with Guitar Hero.

"We're not expecting a typical videogame curve where you sell the majority of the units in the first month and then it decays quickly," Huang said. "We're expecting this to be the type of game that may come out of the gate a little bit slower, but continue to grow over time."

DJ Hero is scheduled to come out on October 27.

I tried the DJ Hero demo at Best Buy and totally couldn't get into it. I also hated the controller.
