Square Enix Cuts Work Force By 10%

Globally, Square Enix has reduced their work force after acquiring Eidos earlier this year.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada revealed that the company had cut its work forace by approximately ten percent.

The restructuring comes in part as a result of the acquisition of Eidos earlier this year. The company has downsized their force across all sections, including Square Enix itself, Eidos, and Taito.

"There's an ongoing process of reshuffling people, but that's not something we do just because of integration," Wada explained. "As an ongoing process that's taking place all across the organisation looking at all of our foot prints - Square Enix Tokyo, Taito and ex-Eidos offices, have seen about 10 per cent reduction of headcount globally."

According to Wada, the integration with Eidos "has been very smooth ... [and] is almost fully complete." With the integration nearly complete, the next step for Square Enix is to start exchanging between the two companies.

Wada says "this has already been happening." Rather than create a single cultural identity Square Enix would like to maintain the internal variety a company like Eidos brings. "Having a single cultural identity would be, I think, the wrong path to pursue."

In Memory of Michael Alvarado

When 1up started the process of shutting down, there was one person who seemed to lead to charge to congregate the community in a single place. The person I'm referring to is, of course, Michael Alvarado, otherwise known as Michael117.
