New Need for Speed Coming Next Year

EA gives the Criterion developed racer a tentative release date.

During a recent conference call regarding the massive lay-offs at the company, EA Games president, Frank Gibeau commented on Criterion's upcoming Need for Speed title.

According to Gibeau, the title is slated to release sometime next year. This is the first piece of information on the game since it was first announced in June. The game is said to be a revolutionary take on the series due to the involvement of the Burnout developers.

Gibeau also mentioned that "in recent years, [they] failed to put adequate resources behind the franchise and, as a result, quality suffered." As a result, sales of the series have declined over the past few years.

EA will continue to keep details about the game to a minimum, because Criterion has been given full rein of the title, and even EA is still unsure exactly what the team has in store.
