October NPD Sales Results Revealed
NPD officially reveals the sales results in October and Nintendo reclaims the top spot.
This month's NPD results reveal that the Wii is once again the top selling console in North America, selling over half a million consoles. The Wii price drop was first introduced in late September, and the results after a month of sales reveals that Wii console numbers are healthier than ever. In fact the Wii was the only console to actually sell more in October than September.
In the handheld market, the Nintendo DS family remains the dominant portable platform, although sales did drop by 70,000 units from September.
The PlayStation 3 sales dropped off by 100,000 but still managed to surpass the Xbox 360 by a large margin, which ended up selling significantly less units.
While Sony was hoping that the PSPgo would revitalize PSP sales, it unfortunately did not, and the sales of the platform dropped from September.

As for software sales, total figures dramatically dropped from September. Uncharted 2 is October's big winner, selling more than 500k copies. Halo 3: ODST, though a solid seller last month, performed less favorably in October, selling a quarter of what it did when it released. Borderlands for the Xbox 360 had a solid debut as did NBA 2K10 on both the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days surprisingly climbed back to the top 10 during October. The title was not present on the top 10 in September.
The NPD has noted that about half of the Wii Fit Plus sales are from the Balance Board bundle. Wii Sport Resort has maintained strong sales although it is unknown if the two Wii MotionPlus bundles helped encourage sales of the game.
