In the first 24 hours, Modern Warfare 2 has shattered the record set by the previous record holder.
Up until recently the record for the biggest sales launch day for a video game has been held by Grand Theft Auto IV, which sold 3.6 million copies.
However, less than one year later that record has been completely shattered by the recent launch of Activion's Modern Warfare 2. In the first 24 hours of its launch, the title sold approximately 4.7 million copies between only North America and the United Kingdom; breaking the record by over a million copies.
Mike Griffith, CEO, Activision Publishing, Inc. commented on the achievement by stating, "The shattering of these entertainment records is a testament to the compelling, cinematic and uniquely engaging experience that the Call of Duty brand delivers. Modern Warfare 2 has taken interactive experience to unprecedented heights setting a new standard for entertainment."
Modern Warfare 2 is currently available at all major retailers across North America for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
