Lufia II Re-Imagined on the DS

Square Enix sheds some light on the new Lufia game announced by Famitsu.

Last week, Famitsu announced that a new Lufia title is in the works. Today, Square Enix revealed new details about Estpolis: The Lands Cursed by the Gods, an action-RPG "re-imagining" of Lufia II. Estoplis is known as the Lufia series in North America.

Estpolis is being developed by Neverland Company who originally created the series and most of the original Lufia II staff is involved in developing the game.

In the game, you play as Maxim who is blessed with special powers. Maxim and friends set out to find a mysterious wave device that grants powerful abilities to the user. Since the game is now an action-RPG, you control Maxim directly. To switch characters, you tap the character's portrait on the touchscreen. Switching characters is also used to initiate combination attacks.

Estpolis: The Lands Cursed by the Gods will be available in Japan on Feburary 25 for ¥5980 (approximately $67 USD).

My roommate was a Lufia II fan, though I never played it. If it's multiplayer, we'll probably both pick it up and play through. If not, I can't say for certain.
