BBC iPlayer Delayed Indefinitely on Xbox 360

A disagreement between Microsoft and BBC caused the launch of the iPlayer to be delayed indefinitely.

According to a source close to BBC's Future Media and Technology Department, the BBC iPlayer is being delayed indefinitely on the Xbox 360.

The source claims that this is due to an a conflict between Microsoft and BBC. Microsoft wants the application to be available exclusively to Xbox Live Gold members while the BBC requires it to be free due to their public service remit.

BBC already has successfully negotiated with Nintendo and Sony to provide free access to the BBC iPlayer and has made it available on both the Wii and PlayStation 3.
