I definitely have to check out the remake of The First Encounter. I loved that game.
I never did play this one, so this seems to provide for a great opportunity to do so. Nice to see that the release date is pretty close too.
With the recent release of The First Encounter, Croteam has announced that the next title in the series is receiving similar treatment.
Serious Sam: The First Encounter was recently released in HD on both PC and XBLA. Apparently, a single helping of Sam was not enough for the creators, Croteam.
According to Joystiq, the follow-up to The First Encounter, obviously named The Second Encounter is also set receive an HD remake for the PC and home consoles. While there is no confirmation, this is likely to include XBLA, but the generic home consoles moniker may also include PSN.
The game, releasing early 2010 will feature a new co-op tournament mode. The Second Encounter will also make an appearance at the 2010 World Expo which will occur this year in Shanghai. Teams will compete in the game for the Digital Youth Award.
It’s been a long time since we’ve seen an entry in the Metroid Prime series - 18 years, in fact. It was 8 years ago that Metroid Prime 4 was originally announced and its development was more than a little turbulent. Initially developed by Bandai Namco, it was later scrapped completely and development was shifted back to Retro Studios to start the project over. In the end, Retro has delivered a solid new entry in the series, but one that doesn’t totally capture what originally made the series so compelling.
