So what we're looking at is the Medieval Gladiator version of Punch-out?
Rage of the Gladiator Coming Soon to WiiWare
The first WiiWare game to use Wii MotionPlus
Courtesy of Ghostfire Games, comes Rage of the Gladiator, a 3D fighting game that pits players against a lineup of unique enemies.
Rage of the Gladiator was not originally intended to support Wii MotionPlus, but rather integrated the function as a response to the request for more Wii MotionPlus support from fans. Ghostfire CEO Ed Roman stated, "The community encouraged us to explore Wii MotionPlus and we listened to your feedback. The result is pretty awesome- we actually love playing it with Wii MotionPlus even more than traditional controls."
The game will feature twenty-one battles in total, all of which can be likened to boss battles. There will be no easy or intermediate fights, just difficult enemies all with their own skills, move sets, and weaknesses. One staple of the game will be the finishing moves, and there are over fourteen fully-animated moves to utilize. One example is known as Darken the Skies, and when this finishing move is performed there is a solar eclipse which sends a strong beam of light down into the arena, burning the enemy to dust.
As players defeat enemies, they earn skillpoints which they can apply to three different types of skill trees: Magic, Defense, and Offense. Adding to these trees earns players new powers to use in battle.
Additional features include realistic animations and a fully rendered 3D world which promises a "polish level rare for a downloadable title". The soundtrack for Rage of the Gladiator has been exclusively created, and the designers hope it is exciting and memorable.
Rage of the Gladiators is expected to release during Q3 of 2009.
