Most Pirated Games on Wii, Xbox 360, and PC of 2009 Revealed

Modern Warfare 2 is the most pirated game on PC and Xbox 360, while New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the most pirated game on Wii.

Torrent Freak has compiled the top five most pirated titles on PC, Xbox 360, and Wii in 2009. The data is derived from various sources including public Bit Torrent trackers.

On PC, the most pirated title was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with approximately 4,100,000 downloads as of December 27. Modern Warfare 2 is also the most pirated title on Xbox 360 with approximately 970,000 downloads. Prototype, another Activison published title also appeared on both the PC and Xbox 360 lists.

The Wii's most pirated title was New Super Mario Bros. Wii with approximately 1,150,000 downloads as of December 27. Four-out-of-five of the most pirated Wii titles were published by Nintendo. The only third party title to make the list was House of the Dead: Overkill.

Ouch! I figured that there is pirating on Wii and Xbox 360 but not this bad.

I'm sure all the console manufactures will try to figure out how to make their console more resistant to pirating in the next console cycle. I have a feeling we will see more Blu-Ray drives, more digital distribution, or other proprietary media for console.
